The City of Lexington has changed its recycling service for complexes our size. Because we have more than seven units, we now need to provide our own recycling dumpster. This change is actually quite positive – it means we have shifted to a city-provided service, eliminating our private trash pickup costs and will save the complex an estimated $10,000 annually. We’re also now receiving two trash pickups per week along with bulk item pickup. This does indeed appear to be helping prevent overflowing dumpsters.
To ensure we can continue benefiting from this city service, everyone’s cooperation is essential. Please remember to break down boxes and empty recyclable materials out of bags before placing them in the recycling dumpster. Do not put trash or bulk items in the recycling dumpster! The city will not collect our recycling if there is trash in it, and we could even lose the service completely.
Bulk items may be placed in the empty area of bay 4 next to the recycling dumpster. Note that there is no automatic pickup of bulk items. Please consider donating items in good condition to a local charity, such as Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Salvation Army, Kentucky Refugee Ministries or Goodwill.
Note that there are exceptions to the items you may dispose of in any of our dumpsters or dumpster areas. E-waste items (televisions, computers, electronics) can be taken to the city Electronics Recycling Center. Tires must be taken, at your expense, to Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station at 1505 Old Frankfort Pike. The city does have four Free trash disposal days per year.
Following these guidelines is crucial to maintain this valuable service. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in fines from the HOA. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
